Can my animal be a registered Pet Partner?

Yes, if your animal is controllable, reliable, and predictable.  Your animal should also have good manners in public places and enjoy visiting with strangers.

Domesticated animals are eligible to be evaluated by Pet Partners.  Examples of registered animals include dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, llamas, potbellied pigs.  Exotics and reptiles are not allowed.

Basic Requirements:

Your pet must live in your home for at least six (6) months and must be one (1) year old at the time of evaluation. ("pocket pets"- hamsters, etc., must be at least 6 months old).  If your pet is too young or not yet ready, email us for help on how to get stated training/ conditioning your animal.

The handler must be at least 16 years of age, or have written permission from a parent/guardian, who must accompany the minor at all times.

See the PetPartners.org website for more information.

Handlers must complete the "Handler Training Course" either online or attend a workshop.  This training is for the human end of the leash, providing you with information about Animal Assisted Interactions, your role as your animal's best advocate and the process in conducting visits.

The Pet Partners registration is good for two years, which includes insurance coverage during your visits, additional training and the latest information on animal assisted interactions.
